5 Secrets to Self-Care No One Talks About

Self care tips are over saturated all over social media. Type in "self care" on any platform and you'll find a flooded timeline of tips encouraging you to put down your smart phone or take a bubble bath. Here's the thing, although those things are great, they can act like bandaids when the root cause is a fragile mental state. As a working mama, wife, business owner... you know how the list quickly grows - we can't mask our balancing act with Sunday facials and an hour of reels scrolling.

We need real solutions to remove some of the pins from our hands as we continue juggling literally three dozen priorities at once. And that's where my list comes in...

Tip #1 - Choose Happiness

I know you've heard it before, but let me tell you how to choose happiness. When you wake up tomorrow, if your favorite shirt has been tucked away in the back of your closet, pull it out. Not because it fits the weather for the day or because it meshes with the blazer you planned to wear on camera for your Zoom calls, but because it's your favorite and it makes you happy. There are so many little choices we can make throughout the day to release dopamine, which is fantastic for our mental health, but we don't, for one reason or another.

I know, I'm pushing the boundaries, but stay with me.

Tip #2 - Connect with Mother Nature

As a girl who is allergic to insects (with my worst allergy to bees), I don't get along with the outdoors. With that said, I have found peace in certain elements Mother Nature provided us that I once took for granted. Every time the sun shines bright, I connect with it's rays - indoor from a window if it's too cold - and love to practice grounding in the Summer.

Tip #3 - Look Inward

Some people need time away from their family, while others love spending time with their loved ones. Whichever end of the spectrum you fall on is fine, just make sure to conduct a routine self evaluation check to make sure your actions reflect what you want and what is best for you. Meaning, although you may want time away, that might not be the best for your family, or vice versa.

Tip #4 - Manifest Your Reality

I love that manifesting reality and affirmations are becoming more mainstream, as I've been a believer for many years. The power of our tongue has never failed and society is finally accepting it as a "norm"; when you decide to manifest your reality, start with what you want to happen, write it out on paper, then read it and hand the paper somewhere you can see it. Put this energy into the air and bring the dream to life. Say it again, everyday and watch how simply speaking life into what you want to happen with change the energy around you and shift the way opportunities form.

Tip #5 - Surround Yourself with Positivity

Lastly, be intentional with what you consume. From this blog, to your influences on social media, to TV shows, conversations at work, reading material, etc. Your body, mind and spirit are the most important living thing you are responsible for and everything around it is fuel - be mindful of what you feed it.
